Summer’s here, so it’s the perfect time to refocus on your goals! Let’s take a step back to figure out what’s working, what’s not, and get back to what matters most. Life can get busy, and sometimes our goals get side tracked by other priorities. The good news is we still have six months left to finish 2024 strong.
Use the process below to walk you through a simple 6-step process to help you refocus, realign, and reignite your goals for the rest of the year.
Tip: take out your journal or a notebook and some fun colorful pens. There is something magical about writing pen to paper. If you’re a digital person then get those fingers moving across the keyboard.
Step 1. Celebrate your wins
Take a moment to celebrate your victories!
- What went well over the last 6 months?
- Did you achieve any goals, big or small?
- Did you learn any new skills or overcome any challenges?
Think of everything you did, accomplished, experienced, loved, enjoyed, or proud of. Take a look at your calendar and get it all down. Do this in all areas of your life: personal, professional, growth, financial, business, health, home, learning, etc. Don’t be shy -acknowledge your accomplishments!
Step 2. Review your frustrations
Now, let’s address the areas where things might not have gone according to plan.
- What challenges did you face in the last 6 months?
- What goals were sidetracked?
- What unexpected obstacles did you encounter?
Remember, this isn’t about blame or failure. The goal is to learn from these experiences. What lessons can you take away from these setbacks?
Step 3. Consider your feelings
Take some time to reflect on the emotional journey you’ve been on.
- Did you experience any feelings of frustration, disappointment, or overwhelm?
- Were there periods of low motivation or lack of focus?
It’s okay to acknowledge these emotions! Giving yourself grace and understanding can help you move forward with a positive mindset.
Step 4. Dream Big: Design Your Future
Now that we’ve reviewed the present, let’s turn our focus on the future.
- Dream of your ideal life without limitations!
- What goals, dreams, experiences do you want to have?
- Where do you want to live? Travel? Do own a business?
- What skills or knowledge do you need to learn to achieve these dreams?
- Where do you see yourself in 1 year, 5 years, or even 10 years.
Don’t worry about achieving everything at once. Think of this as creating a roadmap with exciting destinations along the way.
Step 5. Refine Your Goals
Let’s revisit your existing goals. Have your priorities shifted in the past 6 months? That’s okay! Life happens so we adjust.
- Write down your top 3-5 goals for the remaining months of the year.
- How do these goals align with your big-picture dreams?
- Break down each goal into smaller, actionable steps.
Having a clear roadmap with clearly defined destination points will keep you motivated and moving forward.
Step 6. Make it a Daily Habit
Make sure your goals stay top of mind everyday!
- Schedule time each day, even if it’s just a few minutes, to review your goals.
- Visualize yourself achieving your dreams.
- Stay focused and motivated by reminding yourself of your “why.”
Remember, consistency is key! The more you revisit your goals, the more likely you are to achieve them.
