Self-doubt Isn’t a Stop Sign. It’s a signal You’re Growing

Growth • April 17, 2025

Today I posted a video about self-doubt because it’s something I’ve lived with for a long time.

There have been seasons when I trusted my gut and it led to great things. And other times, it didn’t go the way I hoped. Looking back, I can usually tell when I moved too fast or forced a decision before I had that deep in my gut clarity.

A little over five years ago, we left California and moved to North Carolina. Not because we had to. Not because we hated where we were. It just felt like it was time. I had a feeling I couldn’t ignore. A quiet pull toward something more. Something different.

That decision came with a lot of doubt, but I listened to my gut. And I’m so glad I did.

North Carolina has stretched us in ways I didn’t expect. But it’s also opened our eyes. One of the biggest surprises was homeschooling our youngest son

I was raised in public schools. I raised two kids who graduated from public school too. Homeschooling was never part of the plan. But sometimes life pushes you into something unfamiliar to help you see things differently.

Part of the shift came from disappointment. Our experience with schools here didn’t measure up to what we knew in California, even in highly rated districts. As someone who’s been through the IEP process in both states, I saw the difference in support and structure right away.

Then, during the pandemic, we met someone who had started a homeschool program. It wasn’t traditional homeschool where I’d be the one teaching. That wouldn’t work for us. It was more of a co-op, with tutors, a classroom environment, and other kids. A space that still felt like school, just in a different way.

And over the past three years, our son has grown in ways I didn’t expect.

He still says, “I hate school,” but now it’s followed by, “But I like my school.”

That small shift says everything.

Maybe we came to North Carolina for this exact reason.

Maybe we needed to leave what we knew so we could grow.

Maybe we needed to rethink everything so our son could find a path that worked for him.

Self-doubt will always show up. But sometimes, when you listen past the noise, you find something better than what you left behind.

If you’ve ever wondered if doubt meant you were going the wrong way, maybe it just means you’re growing.

If this resonates, come share your store with me on Instagram or send me a message. I’d love to hear it.
